Sinimalism 2.0 = WONDERLOST | Journal from heart and soul = messy and random

Written by: Sini Hietaharju, Master of Tourism Research & Slow Traveller

25.1.2026

It’s Sunday night, 00.52. Yes, ideally no screens, and especially not actively typing on laptop in the middle of a night.

But this is the night owl writer in me, who had to become alive again.

Too bad it’s not optimized according to some IG influencer wellness standards.

I am using a blue light filter app though, which I’ve been using on my laptop since 2017.

(It’s called f.lux and currently my screen is orange when typing this.)

Anyway, I am just testing out how does this nighttime journaling feel after many years break.

I used to do this very often about ten years ago. Just back then, I didn’t realize to call it journaling.

Just like simply lying down in bed and staring at the ceiling wasn’t called meditation, it just was.

Without concept, without analysing, without trying to fit life into a self-help book system.

Sinimalism 2.0 = WONDERLOST

So, I have just decided to start writing again a random-ass blog. I feel like I've been so confused what this "sinimalism" is about.

Nobody really cares about these random concepts and the confusion of those I’ve had throughout these recent years, but for me, it matters.

And for me, my business is clear now what it is, and all these other projects, meaning slowtravelrepeat and sinimalism, on this website, on Instagram and on Youtube, are all just hobby projects.

And hobby projects are supposed to be fun.

I have clear goals and strategy for my actual business right now, but for these hobbies I don’t want to put any pressure.

And I take pressure if I have multiple channels, meaning two websites, two Instagrams, two Pinterests and two Youtube channels.

Not so chill and mindful living to relax after work, after all, huh?

So that’s why I’ve decided to post whatever, whenever here

I’ll just journal here my own random thoughts on life etc.

Just like how I started and thought already in 2017 or something like that.

But overthinking and using AI as a coach made all that was simple very complex.

But yeah, this is it now.

I still keep my Slow Travel Repeat project, although I won’t take any pressure on that either, and just seeing want comes there from pure inspiration and joy.

And what it comes to this WONDERLOST, I’m not going to even say any plans. I just need a random corner of the internet where I can journal.

And why not just journal in google docs and not publish anywhere?

I somehow never realized to care whether others read my thoughts or not.

And somehow, I enjoy sometimes reading these random journals of people in Substack.

I’m not saying I have anything important to share, this is more of a notes to self to maybe read back to yeard later. And have them all in one place.

It’s all I want to share here: my personal ponderings on life, and more seriously maybe at some point thoughts and tips on different wellness and healing methods. My travel stories will remain in Slow Travel Repeat.

(To be honest, I thought of removing the whole Slow Travel Repeat, but those articles seem to be already helpful for many travelers, so I keep them, and hopefully at some point I have time, energy and interest to add more helpful content there.)

Over here I’ll just share truly from my heart and soul, so it’s going to be messy and random.

I’m done acting like I’m some kind of “wellness influencer” that never curses, doesn’t love dark humour or doesn’t do anything sinful.

I feel like I caged myself with random concepts that I don’t fit into.

Now with this WONDERLOST, I can just share whatever, whenever.

And it’s the most relieving thing I can give to my creativity right now.

Not forcing, no schedule, no concept, no target audience.

Just existing, exploring and creating.

Dotting down what I’ve learned in life.

Currently reading

Okay now it’s time to go to bed. Or in reality, in my case, I will start reading.

And to be honest, I love these nights when everyone else sleeps, and I can just read or write alone.

Tonight it’s going to be either Start with Why or Tattooist of Auschwitz.

I tend to often read two books at the same time, as some days I feel like non-fiction and craving for knowledge, whereas other nights are for chilling.

Not that the Auschwitz book is chill to read, but that’s it for now.

(All my favourite spiritual books listed here)

Note to self: Has simply enjoying life ever occurred to you, instead of constantly setting goals?

Btw, this year I set 30 books as a goal. To be honest, I don’t really care if I reach that goal or not.

It’s just inspiring to save all read books to Goodreads, and last year I read 25 books without trying, so I’ll probably end up somewhere 25-30 books anyway.

So yeah goals are cool, but not on all aspects of life.

It’s easy to get stuck to just being goal-oriented in everything in life, but it’s actually quite harming.

So this is the end of my random Sinimalism 2.0 announcement, and I will NOT set any goals or clarity for this, or for my evening reading.

Because why read 10 pages a day?

How about enjoying a good book without tracking, executing and optimising?
