Retreats around the world are getting more and more popular. If you are not familiar with these life-changing travels yet, let me explain.
Transformative retreats are typically organised in serene or healing, spiritual locations, guided by experts in yoga, Ayurveda, psychotherapy, reiki or other healing methods.
Retreats are normally 2-10 days long, during which you enjoy your stay with activities, meals and accommodation provided in a group.
I personally think retreats are one of the best ways to travel, if you are seeking to connect with yourself in a new level.
It's an alternative instead of a touristy holiday, to have a deeply recovering, mindful travel experience.

If you feel lost or purposeless, burnt out by your everyday life or feeling disconnected or lonely, searching for healing from a transformative retreat is a good place to start.
I don't encourage you to simply escape your problems by traveling, but transformative retreats are actually something that can help you shift your energy and mindset for long-term.
Transformational retreats have, among others, these 5 main benefits:
Clarity and Life Direction New places can help you see things in new perspectives, but that combined with being guided by experts together in a group environment, you can shift and shape your future.
Deep Emotional Healing and Relief Sometimes just talking therapy does not help with the trauma stuck deep within our body, mind and soul. Alternative methods on transformational retreats can help click somehting that is deeply wounded.
Spiritual Connection and Awakening This is a big promise, but definitely not unheard of. The spiritual physical place combined with a spiritual leader can make miracles. The term "Upanishad" comes from Sanskrit roots meaning "to sit down near" a teacher, illustrating the practice of disciples sitting close to a guru for instruction
Physical Vitality I guess all of us can admit that a week without browsing phone, eating nourishing meals and moving while respecting body, instead of pushing, could do good for us physically?
Sustainable Tools for Daily Life We are all happy during a vacation, but the changes and shifts from a transformative retreat are something else. You might just return with something more profound than laundry and getting back to old, daily routines.

You may have trauma, or a personal situation you would want to address on your retreat, but have no idea how to find something useful for you.
Before we get to my exact retreat recommendations by topic, location and budget, I recommend you to get some clarity with these questions first:
What is my primary intention? It's easier to find what you want, when you know what you want. This can be for example, hormonal balance, intuition awakening, bodily healing, direction in life, or any other personal goal of yours.
What is my budget and ideal duration? I know, this got quickly practical after speaking of spiritual awakening and life purpose, but this is essential to know what is possible right now. You can set a budget and dates when you would like to go.
Where in the world do I feel called to go? For all of us, Bali is not the place to be, or maybe you have some other country you've felt for a long time wanting to visit. You can make a list of top 5 destinations.
What style of guidance resonates with me? Not everyone want to go to Rishikesh to be guided by an Indian yogiguru. It's perfectly fine to say if you prefer someone from your own culture, or from more Western medical background. Transformative retreats aren't limited only to yoga. Let's get to the topics next!

Not to make this page 5kms long, I've reviewed and listed the best transformative retreats according to their topic/goal in the following categories.
You can find the best options per theme from the links below.

Sometimes you already have a destination in mind, or a possibility to go only a certain distance from home.
That's why I've listed the most serene and life-changing transformative retreats in these spiritual destinations, to make it easy for you to browse and choose based on the location.
All of these locations chosen are also known as spiritual destinations. Because of that, you can find high-quality retreats from there.
These six areas/destinations are most popular for spiritual and transformative retreats.
Here is a little overview why people have chosen these corners of the world for deep healing and soul searching.
Europe: Advanced retreats combining western and eastern methods. Known for high-quality retreats and easy connectivity from all around the world
USA & Canada: Wide range of options, psychology, energy vortexes in Arizona, and simply the history of gurus traveling to America to share the knowledge (it's important to choose a good retreat)
Asia: The traditional continent for eastern knowledge and methods for healing and spirituality.
Latin America: History of healing with plant medicine, nowadays konwn also for nature connecterness and eco retreats.
India and Nepal: Long history of self healing and magic of the Himalaya to find your true purpose.
Let's admit the fact of the 21st century; different budgets mean slightly different experiences.
Luckily, there are transformative and spiritual retreats for every budget.
The more expensive ones are more luxurious and comfortable, whereas the cheaper retreats focus on deep healing in lower cost locations, focusing on deep healing without anything extra.
You can read the exact schedule of a retreat day from the recommended retreats of this page, but to give you an overview of a "typical day" at a spiritual retreat, it goes more or less like this:
7:30 AM – Morning Yoga (Journaling, Meditation, Pranayama, Dynamic Asana)
9:30 AM – Breakfast
11:00 AM – Nature Walk & Mindfulness
1:30 PM – Lunch & Free Time
5:00 PM – Yin Yoga (Meditative practice with work on deeper tissues in our body)
7:00 PM – Dinner
After Dinner – Sacred Silence & Stargazing

1. Choose your desired destination.
2. Choose a retreat and make a booking.
3. Pack all the essentials for the retreat. You can utilize this packing list for yoga teacher training or this list to travel with only hand luggage.
4. Set boundaries before the retreat. This means telling that you won't be available for work emails, or you won't be reachable 24/7. Only this way you will be more present and let go of constant distractions.
Retreats are awesome method to establish desired habits and let go of ones that do not serve you anymore.
However, it is also very easy to return to everyday life, stuck habits and earlier systems.
For maintaining good habits also post-retreat, I recommend:
1. utilizing free online challenges to remain motivated (for example at www.sinimalism.studio free courses)
2. surround yourself with like-minded people
3. journal and set clear intentions before returning home.
4. set boundaries with the tasks that normally take your time in everyday life.
