Let’s be honest, spiritual people aren’t known to be the best on marketing, especially when it comes to online presence. Therefore sometimes some absolutely awesome retreats organised by qualified teachers in awesome places might be hard to spot.
In this article, I’m listing you all sites I’ve used to find yoga retreats and other kinds of wellness holidays around the world.
These are the yoga retreat websites I primarily use when browsing for yoga retreats and yoga teacher trainings.
If you already know the destination you want to travel to for your yoga holiday, these are the best listings for popular retreat locations.
Can't see the location you want to go to?
Check all locations at bookyogaretreats.
It may seem tricky to find a retreat with likeminded people, who are also into painting or writing, for instance.
But actually these sites offer a great variety of retreats easily in one place to compare.
Can't find any retreats for your quirky interest?
Browse all topics at bookyogaretreats or bookretreats - you'd be surprised what all you can find.
You don't need to be a pro yogi before participating a retreat.
But neither you don't need to feel stuck at beginner level, when you know already all the yoga philosophies and advanced asanas.
Browsing the retreats by skill level is a handy tool for this.
These are some special destinations, if you are not looking for budget fun, but more of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
First things first, you need to choose a legit site to make the payment of your retreat safely and securely.
This is the first criteria of the sites listed on this page.
People like to book directly from yoga retreat organizers, but it may not always be the safest option.
It's not fun to think that you may lose our money in case the retreat you booked gets cancelled - that is why it is safer to book via these big platforms, instead of directly from first-time organizers.
You do have your consumer right to get your money back from a service you never received, yet with smaller businesses, it may sometimes be harder to get done smoothly in practice.
You want to be able to reach out for real people, instead of talking with AI chat bots.
Everytime I have booked via these recommended platforms, I've always gotten a human answer within reasonable time.
Small sites can easily skew their reviews, and post only the good ones.
In bigger retreat booking platforms all the reviews are verified, and you must have joined the retreat to review it.
If the retreat contents and schedule description is really vague, it may change a lot during the retreat.
It is fine if you want to be spontaneous, but you can better be sure to get your money's worth when you know exactly what you buy.
Check especially the imagery of the rooms and accommodation in general that it fits your criteria and wishes.
Many retreats post lovely yoga images in rice fields, yet if the class are held inside a small gym, it does not really match.
So browse images of amenities, accommodation and practice place.
Bigger retreat sites have great filters, so you can easily find the retreat based on your needs, instead of spending hours on browsing.
You surely don't want to support exploitation during your spiritual journey.
Many retreats are organized in global south: it is important to choose a legitimate retreat organizer to make sure they fulfill the corporate responsibility criteria in the destination, as well as towards its employees.
This site Bookyogaretreats.com is normally my go-to platform when looking for a retreat, as the site has thousands of retreats listed worldwide, and it is easy to filter based on multiple kinds of criteria you want, like location, length, activities, price, language, and arrival date.
As they have thousands of retreats, it’s mainly the difficulty of choosing, so you can also easily browse retreats per topic:
Bookretreats is a similar yoga retreat booking platform to Bookyogaretreats is, offering a great selection of retreats worldwide.
So the site is legit and trustworthy as well for booking your retreats.
There are great filters as well to find best fitting retreat for you, yet personally I prefer browsing and searching retreats at Bookyogaretreats, as it has so clear filters and sorting tools.
I would say Bookretreats has too many filters and categories, and then you are afraid on missing out, as you don’t know for example do you want to browse hiking retreats, outdoor retreats, Unique retreats or Rural retreats – as can’t they also be the same thing?
To make it a bit easier, here are the best categories from Bookretreats website to browse per topic/location:
Can't find the kind of retreat you are looking for?
Bookretreats also has a cool feature: A quiz to find a retreat matching exactly your needs.
This platform Bookyogateachertraining.com is tailored for yogis looking to become certified yoga teachers with a yoga teacher training course that lasts normally about a month.
The filters and platform is quite similar as Bookyogaretreats, yet it’s only focused on teacher trainings.
Many people who are not planning to teach, might also join a teacher training.
However, teacher training is much more demanding and not like a relaxing holiday like a yoga retreat.
If you want to book exactly the teacher training I went to in Bali, it was this one: 300h Yoga Multi-style Yoga Teacher Training
Note: For 300-h Teacher Training you must first complete 200h YTT.
Here is a 200-hour training organised by the same Indian yoga school as the 300-hour one I went to.
Book Yoga Retreats and Book Yoga Teacher Trainings are owned by a company called Tripaneer.
Yoy can browse all the yoga holidays and retreats per topic directly from Tripaneer.com.
I would say this is really handy, if you have a certain niche/specific topic in mind to what kind of retreat you want to go to, as Tripaneer categorizes neatly retreats per topic and interest on their home page.
From this part of tripaneer, you can access super easily all meditation retreat offerings all around the world.
If you want to read actual, long reviews of the pros and cons of certain retreats, as well as conclusions of the best retreats in certain destinations, I recommend checking the
Retreats section of www.slowtravelrepeat.com
These curated reviews combine all the best retreats from the different retreat platforms listed above, by spending hours of reading reviews from different places and sometimes even visiting the retreat centres themselves.
So this is the safest way to find a great retreat.
Otherwise it can be a bit time-consuming to read through many reviews of a retreat in one platform.
You also risk reading only the reviews the retreat centre/booking platform wants you to see; it's about showing also the hidden 1-star reviews, to know more realistically what to expect, instead of getting a scewed image of the experience.
The retreat sites I mentioned above surely have something for you as well, as altogether they list monthly thousands of retreats with different themes all over globe.
Some insider tip anhow is also to check Facebook groups, like:
Yoga & Self-Care Retreats
Digital Nomads || Co-livings & Retreats around the globe or International Yoga
Meditation & Spiritual Events & Retreats
There are also many country-specific groups that you can simply search with relevant terms in Facebook to check some retreats directly from organisers there.
If you are looking for slightly more specified activity holidays or retreats, you should definitely check out these special sites:
In many retreats I’ve been to, the food has been so delicious that I wish I was able to prepare it like that.
This website is a gem for culinary enthusiast; how does sound for example sourdough cooking in Granada, Luxury Italian Culinary Vacation or Gourmet cooking holiday in Tuscany?
You can also browse retreats and holidays per category:
From this website you find surf retreats, but also yoga and surf retreats as these two are often combined.
I started also my own surf journey with one week surf retreat in Portugal, and it was really worth it due to the experience and learning to stand on the board during the week.
I recommend browsing from this site based on location or your level:
Bookmartialarts is such a cool site if you are into martial arts and want to go for an intensive camp. In this site you find i.e. boxing, self-defense, muay thai and taichi courses with very affordable prices.
This site is quite similar as Bookyogaretreats, as it lists also yoga and wellness retreats, so I would rather recommend browsing Bookyogaretreats and adding meditation as the filter for activities you want to do. On that side you have wider selection.
Bookmeditationretreats might be handy if you want to check these categories:
BookCyclingHolidays.com: For active people who enjoy combining cycling and yoga.
BookHorseRidingHolidays.com: Perfect for those who want to connect with nature through horseback riding and yoga.
BookDetoxRetreats.com: For yogis looking to cleanse and detoxify their bodies.
BookAllSafaris.com: If you would rather book an organised safari in places like Tanzania, Botswana, Kenya or South Africa, you can browse reliable options here. Note: It is worth reading the reviews on the site before booking.
BookMotorcycleTours.com: In some locations, like Morocco or Nepal it’s nicer to book an organised motorcycling safari.
For that I recommend checking this site. This is not much of my specialty, but great thing for passionate motorcyclists are these categories you can browse based on your interests:
BookRanchVacations: From this Tripaneer site you can check specifically Ranch experiences in top destinations for ranch vacations.
As mentioned, Bookyogaretreats and bookretreats are my personal favorite sites to browse for retreats and book them, but I want to give you a good overview of all legit site options.
Balanceboat is a Retreat booking website located in India, yet they offer retreats all over globe.
They don’t have as massive selection as Bookyogaretreats and bookretreats, but it may make it actually a bit easier to choose from.
They are a legit site, nothing wrong with that, but filters and variety is better in Bookretreats and Bookyogaretreats.
This site is listing also retreats, but the vibe I got is that they are more selling coaching for yoga teachers to organise and sell their own retreats. So I would not use this for browsing a specific retreat for yourself, as the sites mentioned above have much more options and much better filters to choose what you are looking for.
In my honest opinion, this site is a bit weird and looks a bit old-fashioned, but the point of it is to help find teachers and interesting yoga styles and classes nearby you.
I think this is more used and known in the US, but as someone from Europe I’d rather go for the other sites.
Yes, Airbnb is primarily accommodation booking platform, but a couple of years ago Airbnb launched Airbnb experiences where anyone can organise also experiences.
It is worth exploring some lesser known hidden gems from here, especially if you prefer combining self-guided tour to a little bit of organised activity rather than having all-in-one kind of retreat package.
Yovada is relatively small sites compared to the wide variety listing sites mentioned above, but they might have some hidden gems that aren’t listed in bigger platforms.
The site is not so straightforward and navigate and browse retreats, as they don’t have filters and easy browsing, but they list different retreats and then you can read more on the retreat organiser’s own website.
Yoga Escapes is a relatively little site listing holidays especially for British people.
So the benefit is that all retreats will be for sure in English.
