Spain's warmth, lifestyle and easy flight connections from all over Europe make Spain attractive for a yoga holiday.
I have lived in Spain for about four years (and currently do), and in this article I will reveal the best yoga retreats in Spain, both in mainland Spain and in the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands.
A retreat in Spain is a wonderful way to distance yourself from everyday life and return truly relaxed and inspired.
Spain is attractive for a yoga retreat:
Summers throughout Spain are always warm and sunny with long days. Many parts of southern Spain and the Canary Islands are also pleasant in winter, making them an idyllic getaway.
Spain is famous for its popular beach destinations, but its natural beauty extends far beyond the coast.
The Spanish countryside is incredibly peaceful and beautiful, and there are also several blissful mountains in Andalusia and the island of Tenerife.
From tapas to paella and sangria, food in Spain is not just a meal, it’s a way of life. The Spanish enjoy long, leisurely dinners with fresh Mediterranean cuisine and delicious local wines. Many retreats in Spain include home-cooked dinners or meals at local restaurants, where you can experience this for yourself.
The atmosphere in Spain’s smaller towns and islands is calm and relaxed – just what you need for a yoga and wellness retreat. While the big cities no longer honor the siesta tradition, many towns and villages still do. So if you’re a fan of afternoon naps and taking things slowly and in small ways, you’ll feel right at home in Spain.
There are so many incredible destinations across the country, so choosing a yoga retreat in Spain depends on what you’re looking for.
Here are just a few of my favorites:
Alicante – This bustling tourist city is such a popular destination for its lively atmosphere, golden sandy beaches and rich heritage. (I live here myself, so I can wholeheartedly recommend it)
You can fly here directly for example with cheap fair airline Ryanair all year round.
Andalusia – From the coastal city of Malaga to the historic city of Seville and the endless countryside, Andalusia has endless and diverse beautiful landscapes.
Ibiza – If you want to do yoga by day and party by night, an Ibiza yoga retreat is for you. Known as the party island, Ibiza’s wide range of spiritual offerings may surprise you.
Mallorca – The largest of the four Balearic Islands, Mallorca has an abundance of nature, such as sheltered bays, limestone mountains and stone-built villages.
Canary Islands – Geographically closer to Africa than Spain, yoga retreats in the Canary Islands offer year-round warmth, unique Canarian culture, and great surfing.
Here are eight of the best yoga retreats in Spain, all of which offer something unique but lead to an unforgettable, life-changing experience.

Once you've found the perfect Spanish yoga retreat, it's time to start planning your trip. Let's take a look at when to visit, how to get there, and what to bring to make the most of your experience.
Although Spain is known for its warm weather and sunshine, this does not mean that every region has idyllic weather all year round.
Northern Spain can get really cold in the winter months, while Andalusian cities like Seville can get uncomfortably hot in the summer.
The southern coast of Spain (Costa del Sol) remains relatively warm all year round, but the Canary Islands are the best choice if you are looking for a winter yoga retreat or yoga teacher training in Spain.
The Canary Islands have a consistently pleasant climate, never too hot or too cold.
Spain has good connections from many European destinations to at least the following airports: Madrid, Barcelona, Alicante and Malaga.
It is also easy to travel around the country in Spain, either by train or domestic flights.
Remember to check the nearest airport to your yoga center and whether they can offer airport transfers.
